It all seems so clear in the cinema. All it takes is passion and dedication, and you can free the slaves. You can change the world. You can make your life into a burning torch which sets the world alight.
But I get out of the cinema and time is no longer compressed. It passes with all the boring bits left in. The conversations we have to have about what groceries need buying. And the reality: I am not William Wilberforce. I am a librarian with a job to go to in the morning and dishes to be washed.
Nathan, we all have our talents and we all start from the place we are today. True, we can’t decide one minute to change the world and then have it changed two hours later the way it happens in a movie. But let your mind stretch the other way, see the breadth of time and that even one lifetime is just a moment. Then compress back to the instant you are living and take that first baby-step toward a changed world – that is a victory. That baby-step can be nothing more than an admission of your talent or a small commitment – “today I will use 30 minutes to learn more about modern slavery.” Wilberforce was involved in a campaign that began before him and continued after him and continues today. His part took a solid 20 years, but it had to be lived one little step at a time calling on the Light for help and guidance.
Warm wishes,

Thanks Kevin. I will look into the problem of modern slavery. And I agree with you about small steps.
