My first copy of The Red Witch: A Biography of Katharine Susannah Prichard arrived in February and the book became a lot more real to me! We opened a good bottle of Cab Merlot from 2014, the year I began the biography, but alas it didn’t go well with packet sweet and sour chicken which had already been made. I’m so happy with how MUP have published it, from the design to the printing and not to forget the editing. The official publication date has been put back to 17 May due to delays at the ports, but I’ve been assured there were still be copies at my launch eight days earlier. Here’s details of some events taking place:
1. The Red Witch Launch, University of WA Tavern, 5pm Monday 9 May
To be launched by my PhD supervisors, Professor Tony Hughes d’Aeth, chair of Australian Literature at UWA, and Professor Van Ikin, Senior Honorary Research Fellow at UWA. Free event, but tickets required – book them here: https://www.trybooking.com/BXYCR
2. Online launch, 6pm AWST, 8pm AEST Tuesday 17 May
Video call link: https://meet.google.com/sjt-nvhb-axc – just jump on at the right time.
The book will be launched by Karen Throssell, poet, memoirist and granddaughter of Katharine Susannah Prichard.
Host: Lisa Hill, ambassador for Australian literature and ANZ Litlovers blogger
Speaker: Dr Nathan Hollier, CEO of Melbourne University Publishing
If possible, wear something red! You may wish to drink a glass of dry sherry (Katharine’s favourite drink) or whatever else takes your fancy. Finishing with questions and discussion.
3. The Red Witch: Nathan Hobby in conversation with Dr Kate Gregory, State Library of WA, 6pm Wednesday 25 May
Free, ticketed event – https://slwa.wa.gov.au/whats-on/red-witch
I hope to see you at one of these events!
I haven’t got my copy yet. (I pre-ordered it the day they opened it up for orders.)
Soon, I will start to panic that I won’t have it read it time.

I did the time zone math. 6pm AWST = 4am MDT. Initially I thought I might have to be a hard no at that hour, but then it occurred to me that it’s 4:23am right now (thanks insomnia!) so maybe…
But whether or not I make the launch, I look forward to reading the book!

I’m sorry Laura – I actually did the math(s) on New Mexico time too and thought that would not be a friendly time in NM! I hope you have an ok day today despite being up at such an awful time.
