Synopsis
The Fur is the story of a troubled teenager’s quest to live a meaningful life. The backdrop is a Western Australia quarantined from the rest of the world because of a fungus which has infested the state. Michael has to choose between quietism, revolution, and escape. Hungry for love, his dilemma is painfully compounded by his fundamentalist family, his mother’s death and his obsession with beautiful and inaccessible girls.

I read this in high school multiple times alone in the library at lunch times. I wanted to avoid being out in the yard and kind of just picked it up to pass the time. I didn’t like reading at the time but it sparked my love for reading which I’ve now carried with me long after. I remember really enjoying it and it was oddly comforting.
